For the B Cubed Press anthology Alternative War, I submitted for consideration my short science fiction story “B Company,” about a commander stationed on a remote outpost who was slowly losing the confidence of his soldiers.
Bob Brown accepted the story for his and Debora Godfrey’s anthology, and we worked on several rounds of edits. The final story had changed so much by the end of the editing process that I felt the previous title no longer applied, and the story has now been published as “Burden of Command.” (One day, after the exclusivity period, I may publish the original story, since it still holds a special place in my heart.)
